TENT-T road network

The trans-European transport network (TEN-T) is a unified network of rail, inland waterway, road, maritime, air and multimodal transport infrastructure in the European Union (EU).

TEN-T policy aims to create transport infrastructure and connections that strengthen the single market, ensuring the smooth flow of goods and people, and contribute to growth, job creation and EU competitiveness.

All of Latvia’s main national roads and the Tīnūži-Koknese motorway (P80) are included in TEN-T, which comprises a two-tier structure – a “general” network and a “core” network built on top of the general network.

The general network ensures accessibility and connectivity of all EU regions. The general network includes all the main national roads in Latvia.

The core network includes those parts of the general network that are most strategically important for achieving the TEN-T policy objectives of progressively promoting the internal market, strengthening territorial, economic and social cohesion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the EU through TEN-T. The core network in Latvia is N-S Ainaži-Riga-Grenctāle and E-W Ventspils-Riga-Jēkabpils, with further branching via Rezekne-Terehova and via Daugavpils-Pāternieki.
